Rob wrote ‘Mendips’ with his father a few years ago. The song is about Rob’s ancestor Thomas, who left his home in Somerset to start a new life in Australia with his wife Anne and young son George. The rest is history!

Thomas came from the West Country
and married his Anne when they were twenty
Soon the family grew by one
with the birth of their first son

Life in Somerset was hard at that time
and there was little work for a man of his kind
He heard talk of a free passage to a distant land
where work was easier to find
